About VOCALOID:
VOCALOID or just 'V1' in the VOCALOID community, is a singing synthesizer application
software created by YAMAHA Corporation in 2004. Using specially recorded vocals from voice actors and singers, the synthesizing technology software allows users to synthesize 'singing' through typing the lyrics and the melody. Originally, VOCALOID was only in English but further development allowed other languages such as Japanese, Spanish and Chinese.
Codenamed CV01, Hatsune Miku was the very first Japanese VOCALOID and is considered the most popular and well known and is the first to become a pop idol. Overall, she was the seventh released VOCALOID and her voice actress is Saki Fujita, also known to voice Ymir in Attack on Titan and Elena in Street Fighter among her other projects.
Her name was derived from the Japanese words Hatsu(first), Ne(Sound) and Miku (Future) with the literal meaning of 'the first sound from the future'. Upon release on 31 August 2007, the initial sales for Hatsune Miku were unexpectedly high, so much so that Tokyo was not able to keep up with consumer demands. In just the first 12 days of sales, around 3000 reservations were made and by 12 September 2007, Hatsune Miku's total sales amount to 57,500,001 yen; making Hatsune Miku the number one selling product at that time and her first year saw her selling over 40000 units.
