Biography

A Brief Synopsis of Homura's Time-Leaping Adventures (Puella Magi)

- Information on Homura's Time Travel by Tsunade

Playing a central role in the plot of the Puella Magi, Homura Akemi's ability to time travel also means she has somehow created many different parallel universes in order to achieve her goal- which we soon find out is rescuing Madoka Kaname. The series of events we witness in the span of the anime (when Homura appears in Madoka's dream, which is speculated to be remnant memories from an alternate universe) is apparently more than the hundredth universe Homura has created in order to achieve her goal. The first time she begins to time leap is estimated to be sometime between March and April. What spins off the entire story is an attack on her by a Witch during this time, and Madoka appears with Tomoe Mami and saves her life. Her wish to redo her meeting with Madoka when the latter dies fighting Walpurgisnacht a month later grants her the ability to pause or rewind time for a month.

During her travel through different universes, Homura trained her abilities to a much greater level (compared to the weak and sickly girl she was) and also managed to acquire weapons and ammunition for the battle with Walpurgisnacht. This ability also allowed her to 'predict' the future. However, the downside of this was her having to witness her friends' deaths repeatedly, and also made her relationship with Madoka weaker and weaker with each leap.

In the second timeline, Homura introduces herself to Mami and Madoka as a magical girl upon meeting them on the first day of school. The trio form a team to fight witches, but once again during Walpurgisnacht, Homura has to reset the timeline as Madoka's soul gem becomes so corrupt that she turns into a witch. In the third timeline, Homura tries to change things by letting the others know from the start that Kyubey is deceiving them and that the fate of Magical Girls is to be Witches. However, Sayaka accuses her of trying to break the group up and laters ends up becoming a witch, forcing her friends to fight against her. When Mami realises the truth about Magical Girls, she breaks down and tries to kill Kyoko and Homura; Madoka then kills Mami for Homura's life. The two remaining Magical Girls defeat Walpurgisnacht, but both have their soul gems so corrupted that Homura has no choice but to reset it, after she kills Madoka to prevent her from becoming a witch.

Out of desperation, Homura kills Kyubey immediately in the next timeline, and tries to fight and defeat all the witches on her own. Unfortunately, the scheming Kyubey convinces Madoka to contract to save Homura, and the former turns into a witch upon defeating Walpurgisnacht in one shot. In the fifth timeline, Homura prevents Madoka from contracting, and gives her a vague warning. The truth about Soul Gems and the Magical Girls are revealed somewhere in between, and during Walpurgisnacht, Homura tries to fight alone but fails. Madoka's makes a wish to kill all witches regardless of which timeline they are in just before they are born, including her own. This new universe created by Madoka causes everyone to 'lose' their memories (or rather, they never had those memories) except Homura, who still remembers everything and even has a new black bow as a weapon similar to Madoka's.
