The Pokeball is easily one of the most recognized item in the world. The red top and white bottom version is the most basic and common of the poke balls and is used throughout the anime series. It is first seen on the episode number one when the viewers are first introduced to Pikachu.

After arriving late at Professor Oak's laboratory, An aspiring Pokemon trainer named Ash was disappointed to find that Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle were already taken up by other trainers earlier. Feeling bad for the aspiring trainer, Professor Oak then allowed Ash to take his Pikachu. Pikachu is a yellow rodent-type Pokemon. Being short, fat and cute, Pikachu is often underestimated by the little guy's power is that of static; he can electrocute humans and other Pokemons alike.

At the beginning, Ash and Pikachu did not get along. Pikachu often zapped Ash with volts of electricity and refused to obey his instructions such as entering the inside of the Pokeball. There was even one instance where Pikachu laughed at Ash for failing to capture a Pidgey. Near the end of the episode however, Ash earned the trust and respect of Pikachu when Ash protected Pikachu from a flock of Spearow. After defeating the Spearows, Ash and Pikachu became best friends.
