Hinata Shouyou is the main protagonist of the anime sports series, Haikyu. He is a first year student at Karasuno High where he also plays as one of the middle blockers of the school volleyball team. Appearance-wise, Hinata is the second shortest member of his team, next to the team's libero, Nishinoya Yu. Hinata has a thin build, has messy orange hair with brown eyes. He typically wears his school uniform and when he is playing, he wears the school jersey number 10.

His first appearance was in the Karasuno High Team Formation Arc where he was shown to have a rivalry with fellow team member, Kageyama Tobio. The two caused a ruckus and eventually started a 1-on-1 match that ended horribly. As a result, the Hinata and Kageyama were kicked out of the practice gym until they view each other as allies. Personality-wise, Hinata is known for his cheerfulness and enthusiasm, making friends with anyone easily. On the court, Hinata is extremely competitive and will not back down from any challenge. Off the court, he has poor grades due to his volleyball commitments and has yet to score double digits on any of his class tests.
