Background:

Orochimaru popularizes the Kusanagi sword after producing the katana inside the snake’s throat. After the performance though, he made sure that the spectators wont be alive. One can predict his next move, if he produces the handle first, he has plans to lounge around and play with his prey. Once he let it out with the blade first, he’ll go for offense and attack freely.

The Kusanagi differs from ordinary katana since it doesn’t have a hand guard and said to be a double-edged sword. The sword can extend its blade to attack from afar and it can cut through almost anything. But this ability was tested and proven to be false, as it cannot pierce Naruto in his 4-tailed beast glory.

Uchiha Sasuke is also a user of Kusanagi but his own sword doesn’t have the unique abilities of Orochimaru’s Kusanagi. He uses it very well, though, when he let his chakra flow through with the katana making it look like a lightsaber.
