Sesshomaru is Inuyasha's full fledged demon elder brother. Cool and seemingly evil, Sesshomaru's name literally means to kill. Sesshomaru despises Inuyasha for being a half demon and having human feelings. The reason was probably due to the attack of the Panther Tribe 50 years ago, when Sesshomaru expected Inuyasha to help out in the battle but Inuyasha was cursed and bound to a tree after falling in love with a human woman, Kikyo. Although Sesshomaru always threatened to kill Inuyasha, there were many chances for him to do so but which he never did.

Sesshomaru inherited the sword Tensaiga from his father. Tensaiga, forged from Sesshomaru's father's fang, only had healing powers and is useless as a weapon. Thus, Sesshomaru sought after another sword also forged from his father's fang but had great destructive powers, the Tetsusaiga. The Tetsusaiga was however, left to Inuyasha, and could only be wielded by one who has human blood. In the fight for the Tetsusaiga, Inuyasha severed Sesshomaru's left arm.

Although Sesshomaru only has his right arm, he was still a powerful demon lord feared by many. He is always seen going somewhere but we're not sure exactly where. His 'fellowship' includes Jaken, a talkative little demon servant. He also allowed an exuberant human orphan girl, Rin to tag along after resurrecting her and curing her from being a mute.

Sesshomaru could possibly be the only demon who doesn't covet the power of the Shikon Jewel (Shikon no Tama).
