Fujiwara no Sai Biography (Hikaru no Go)
- adapted from WikipediaName: Fujiwara no Sai
Age: > 150
Occupation: Ghost
Sai was a Go instructor for the emperor in the Heian Era. One day, the second Go instructor said that they should have a game to see which go instructor should stay. However, Sai saw that one of his go stones had been mixed in with his opponent's basket. Instead of giving the stone back to Sai, he put it in with his prisoners. Just as Sai was about to point this out, the instructor had accused Sai of putting his go stone with his prisoner. Sai said it wasn't true and said that his opponent did instead. The emperor refused to believe one of his subordinates would dare to cheat in his presence, and the game continued. However, having been thrown off, Sai lost the match.
Sai was branded a cheater, and drowned himself two days after, having already been exiled. Still desiring to play more Go, the ghost of Sai possessed a goban (Go Board). His ambition is to achieve the "Hand of God," or rather to master the "Divine Move," which literally means playing a perfect game. After a great span of time, a young Kuwabara TorajirÅ (Hon'inbo Shusaku) came across the Goban and willingly let Sai occupy his mind. Through him many consider the boy to be the greatest player in the golden age of Go, and is still a renowned legend.
