Shinn Asuka's personality is reflected in his red eyes and the name of the Mobile Suit Gundam that he piloted. The impulsive teenager is arrogant, proud, and a pain in the ass. After his family died in Orb in the big battle from Gundam Seed, all he has left are memories of them in a pink cellphone that once belonged to his little sister, Mayu Asuka. So whenever we see the cellphone on screen, be also expected to see an angst-filled Shinn explode into angry tears.
Shinn, like Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, is also a berserker (a warrior who becomes so excited during a battle that a colourful seed explodes on top of his head and turns him into a super ace and unkillable). So in a short time, Shinn became a top gun on the warship Minerva, which basically means he can get away with being an asshole.
Relationship wise, Shinn met and fell in love Stellar Loussier, not knowing that he fought her countless times on the battlefield. Stellar was captured by Minerva one fine night and Shinn being Shinn (and the creators wanting so desperately to mirror the storyline of Gundam Seed Destiny with Gundam Seed), he returned Stellar to the enigmatic Neo Lorrnoke of the Earth Military, demanding Neo Lorrnoke to promise to remove her from the battlefield. From this incident, we learn that Shinn is not very bright. I mean, what kind of an idiot soldier returns a deadly enemy pilot to his enemies and believe his enemies' promises??
So as expected, Stellar returns to the battlefield in a super Destroyer and gets killed by Kira. Shinn, in turn, blames Kira for Stellar's death instead of his own stupidity and trained himself and destroyed the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam.
Anyway, although Shinn is really unlikable and easily manipulated (because he is not very bright), he reflects humanity closely and is thus well liked by many.

Shinn is the bomb I don't care what is up there or anywhere else Shinn kicks ass and yes Shinn is a total ass. Shinn rules but the writer made shinn look like a baby when the pink cell phone was brought out.

I think Shinn is not that dull enough like what is written here. Okay, the writer have his point there but if Shinn did not return Stellar, she will die in Minerva. Shinn believes that Neo has a better solution to Stellar's problem and he's the only one who can cure her. Anyway, I still like Shinn no matter how they describe him...
