Okita Sougo is the sadistic captain of the Shinsengumi 1st Division. Called the 'Prince from Planet Sadist' by Shinsengumi vice commander Hijitaka Toushiro, Okita's hobbies include mainly plotting Hijitaka's death , after which Okita will be able to become the vice commander. Okita's schemes include cursing Hijitaka while wearing a head gear of burning candles in the dead of the night.
Okita speaks in a deadpan tone, is usually detached, and is mercilessly sarcastic. He is often caught napping nonchalantly with his trademark bright red eye mask with 2 wide open eyes on it. In fact, he is able to nap even while swinging his wooden sword during practice.
Okita's weapon of choice is usually a bazooka. Although Kondo Isao calls Okita the best swordsman in Shinsengumi with the fastest reaction speed; he lost in a fight with Hijitaka Toushiro.
Okita is detached from most people, and only lowers his guard, becoming a happy child when he is with his elder sister, Okita Mitsuba.
Besides Kondo Isao, one of his 1st friends whom he respects deeply, Okita also seems to respect and look up to Sakata Gintoki, whom he chose to introduce to his sister as his good friend. Although Okita states his deep hatred for Hijitaka which spanned since their childhood, they are close comrades and are often seen working together.
Okita Sougo's name is based on the actual historical Shinsengumi 1st Division Captain, Okita Souji.
