Illya sure looks like a sweet girl but she is actually a very talented master of Berseker-class servant. She iniatially joins the war to become the ultimate winner and be the first to bring that honor to Einzbern family.
But then, Illya’s presence in the war meant something more important. She is in reality the would be vessel of the Holy Grail. She is a Homunculus or in layman' term, the product of applying sorcery to sperm cells. Her father (meaning the sperm donor) is Kiritsugu Emiya, the surrogate father of Shiro Emiya.
She dislikes Shiro for being close to his father yet she feels bonded to him because of that. As an artificial human, her body will give birth to the Holy Grail once all six servants die.
