Mayuri Kurotsuchi, also known as the captain of the 12th division in the Gotei 13, is one whose appearance cuts an uhm… intriguing impression. Hardly ever seen without his mask on, he honestly looks to me like a spawn of the devil or something that came out of Viktor Frankenstein’s laboratory. Nevertheless, his abilities as a scientist and captain are nothing less than impressive although perhaps a tad disturbing. Besides being able to regenerate various parts of his physical form, his ear actually hides a built-in scythe- making Mayuri’s character seem like almost Death personified.
What further makes him seem all the more disturbing is the nature of his zanpakuto, known as Ashisogi Jizō, which somewhat resembles a grotesque gargantuan baby plagued by jaundice. Talk about scary.
