Although he comes across just as an emotionless and icy man-of-war, Kuchiki Byakuya is one intriguing character. Despite his seemingly heartless intentions regarding Kuchiki Rukia'sexecution, we realize later on that he’s just a big softie on the inside, conflicted by his feelings.

On screen, Byakuya is man of few words and says nothing much most of the time unless he finds the need to. (After all, he spends most of his screen time just looking apathetic) Unlike most other characters in Bleach who contribute to the comic relief from time to time (even the ruthless Zaraki Kenpachi), Byakuya’s character seems almost incapable of that. Still, we love him for the fact that he looks out for the people he cares about, putting his kick-ass shinigami powers to good use when he needs to. This protective streak of his is seen when he rescued Kuchiki Rukia from Yoshi’s attempt to kill her during the Bounto arc. Surely there is more to Byakuya than what meets the eye pertaining to his cold, regal exterior.
